Artist Gallery
Janice regularly enters into local art shows and has received numerous awards including two Best of Shows at the Calaveras County Fair. Her preferred subjects are large water birds, florals, landscapes, and paintings of the historic California missions. She works in several media including oils, acrylics, watercolor, and colored pencils. Janice exhibits for Arts of Bear Valley during the annual Music Festival and at the Calaveras Big Trees Show. She also exhibits for Golden Palette at Native Daughters, Ironstone Winery, and Murphy’s Grille. She has exhibited at Mistlin Gallery in Modesto. Janice completed a wonderful workshop with Jane Hofstetter in 2004, and one with Dale Laitenin in 2003. She has completed numerous workshops conducted by local artist Carolyn Macpherson. In August, 2000, she spent 17 days with Lura Francis painting “en plein aire” near Limoux, France. Prior to that she took two workshops with Robert Burridge, one in oil painting and one in water media. She completed two color classes and one skills improvement class with Judie Cain. Janice is a member of three local art clubs and has served as President, Vice President, and Secretary of Arts of Bear Valley. She was also Vice President and Secretary in The Golden Palette Art Club. She initiated the Koinonia Art Club at Chapel In The Pines in Arnold twelve years ago. Prior to moving to Arnold, Janice taught piano for more than 16 years. She taught a Spanish travel course through Community Education in Fremont, California. Because of her interest in art, she incorporated Art Appreciation into the Spanish course. She received her Bachelor Degree in Education in 1965. She has always demonstrated an interest in fine and decorative arts and has expanded her interests in art by taking various Community Education classes over the years. Janice was born in Emporia Kansas, raised in Oklahoma and migrated to California with her husband, Jerry, and three young daughters in 1971. Janice and Jerry moved to Arnold in 1991.
