Her lifelong love for nature has led Elaine Staben to try and share that tranquil beauty with everyone who sees her paintings. Her fascination with light, color and design is more important to her than realistic landscapes in the traditional view, in expressing her feelings. Studying the impressionists was a tremendous influence on her paintings, however, she is always open to new styles of painting. She continues to take workshops from various artists, always striving to explore new ideas, techniques, and acquire inspiration.

After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art from San Francisco State University in 1970, she pursued employment in various commercial arts including advertising, painting windows and signs. Fine arts were her obsession though. For over thirty years Elaine has been painting a multitude of different medias: everything from oils, watercolor, acrylics, pastels, batiks, and collage. Murals are becoming one of her favorite and most popular specialties.

Since relocating from the Bay Area to the Mountains, she has spent much of her time substitute teaching in the local schools. Elaine is a long time member of The Golden Palette Art Association, an active participant in the Calaveras County Arts Councils Arts in Education Program, an active teacher of mixed art media in the Healthy Start and Highway 4 Success after school programs. She is part of the Adjunct Staff at Columbia College to teach art classes. She is also a long time member of The Arts of Bear Valley, an organization whose volunteer work, helps bring art to local communities.

Her passion for art lead her to develop Art & Soul, a charming Gallery, Art Supply Store, and Studio in Cedar Center in Arnold, California from December 2001 to January of 2004 where she sold paintings, art supplies and taught a multitude of art classes. Presently, you can view Elaine Stabens art in The Main Street Gallery in Murphys, California and in The Range of Light Gallery in Bear Valley, California, as well as many local Art Shows. Mural can be seen at Dr. Arnolds office, Hibernation Spa, The Logging Museum, and several private residences in Arnold, California.
